Yes, you should. Whether you plan on staying for two days or weeks in Gozo, driving yourself around is convenient and comfortable. Gozo is a small town, and bus and train connections may prove problematic. The terrain may also limit public transport accessibility to some remote places. The rental companies in Gozo also allow you to choose a convenient pick-up and drop-off location for your car, making it cheaper than a one-way rental car.

Driving in Gozo is good in general as all roads are paved. However, it would be best if you noted that it could be difficult depending on the time of the day you are going. During morning hours or evening hours, the traffic is overwhelming. Also, you must put your careful driving gear on as the roads are narrow and curvy. There are no multiple highways, so getting lost as you navigate through is impossible. The driving speed limit is 80 km/h (50 mph) in freeways and 50 km/h (30 mph) in residential areas. Also, read the speed road signs as you drive to avoid getting a ticket.

You can rent a car as long as you are at least 21 years old and less than 75 years of age. Drivers between 21 and 24 years old have to pay a young driver's charge as a way for rental companies to insure themselves. Older drivers between 70 and 75 must also provide a medical permit indicating they can drive without supervision. If traveling as a family or a group, you can let someone over 25 years drive you around to avoid extra charges. You must also have driving experience of at least 12 months and a valid driving license from your home country or an international driving license.
