The Blue Mountains are unique because of the stunning scenery of rugged sandstone tablelands, breathtaking waterfalls, viewpoints and canyons. Jenolan Caves, another must-see attraction that adds to the Blue Mountains' allure, are right on the edge. Hiring a car enables you to explore all the breathtaking wilderness in its untamed glory. The roads are great and there are lots of free parking spaces and signage. While you might not be guaranteed to find parking in close proximity to your destination, you can park down the road if you don't mind a short walk. Your travel will be significantly easier if you have a GPS or navigation app on your phone.

A good way to experience the intriguing attractions is by hiring a car; you can spend a few days sightseeing or simply dip in and go on day trips. The spectacular Blue Mountains area is only a few hours’ drive from Sydney. Get ready for an action-packed trip, as there’s so much to do and see in the area. There have been extensive roadworks over the past few years and the road is in excellent condition, with only a few steep sections between Lawson and Wentworth Falls. The drive is quite fine despite having to share the road with numerous trucks, tour buses and other vehicles. Just be aware that the varying speed limits are regularly enforced by the highway patrol police. All in all, don’t forget to carry plenty of drinking water if you'll be travelling in the summer, due to excess heat, and lots of clothing if you'll be travelling in the winter, due to the chilly cold.

In the Blue Mountains, you must be at least 21 years old to hire a car. While older car hirers generally apply for larger and luxury models, most Blue Mountains car hire companies allow young hirers to hire select models, such as economy and compact vehicles. Additionally, young car hirers may be charged a “young driver fee”, to cover the higher risk of accidents and other damages.
