absolutely nothing, Budget in Guayaquil airport did not honor the terms of my reservation wanting to charge extras for mileage and insurance doubling the rate of my reservation. I had to go to another rental agency for a vehicle.Cons:

I'll stick to the facts: 1. It took them over 1.5 hours to provide me with a vehicle. 2. I booked an automatic and they didn't have any automatics in hand. (Said people were not returning cars on time - I think it was BS) 3. They discounted me $10 per day for "my troubles" _ WHAT IN THE WORLD COULD I DO IF I DIDN'T ALSO KNOW HOW TO DRIVE A MANUAL TRANSMISSION! 4. My reservation said Chevy Tahoe or similar (I chose the biggest car). I'm sorry to report that a Susuki Gran Vitara provided by Budget is NOT on the same level as a Chevrolet Tahoe. (They said it was the biggest vehicle they had). 5. They couldn't use my Citi Credit Card because it had a chip and the letters/numbers did not jet-out from the card like the old cards. They say the country had not upgraded their credit system, so I guess it wasn't their fault? Except I had no trouble using my c.c. all over the rest of Ecuador... I eneded up using my Chase c.c. which also had a chip, but the letters/numbers did jet out still. 6. Even after I purchased their insurance, which I didn't want to because my Citi c.c. covers it, they still had to take a $1,500 hold on my card... Not a problem for me, but imagine if my secondary card didn't have a high enough limit. 7. I wanted to return to the vehicle earlier and they said it was a 24 hours charge for the day regardless. I said ok, but I get to the airport and the office is close at 7am! I think they come in at 8am? Avis was open. I don't know if my experience would have been any better at any of the other companies, but my point is I won't be renting from budget any time in the future and would advise other fellow travelers to try Avis or Thifty both opened at 6:00am when I got to the airport.7.2 Good

The cost of the vehicle ended up roughly doubling what was expected due to: 1.) insurance coverage - granted I get that.. 2.) The limit on the number of kilometers you could drive for free.. this wasn't clear at all on the reservation - likely buried in the fine print somewhere. We have always been Enterprize car renters. Everything was set. Got the insurance through Allanz. Perfect. Git to Guayaquil and they said we had to take their insurance of $36 per day or we couldnt rent the car. So guess what we said!?!! Too bad so sad! We took cars all over the coast of Ecuador1.9 Poor

1st my reservation was made about 5 months before my trip and per the reservation I would get a Tahoe or something similar. When I arrive the Thrifty clerk says they don’t work with Tahoe’s and that my reservation would be for a Suzuki Vitara and if I wanted an upgrade it would cost me twice as much as what my reservation was made. 2nd even though my credit card offered insurance for international rentals (I called my credit card to confirm this before I left the country and they said the country I was going to was covered for rentals) Thrifty made me buy their insurance or I could not rent the vehicle! I was traveling with my wife and 2 kids (toddler and infant) so I had no choice at that point but to pay the extra or I would have to waist more time at the airport after a almost 12 hour flight and it was getting late. 3rd because none of my credit cards have the numbers in the front (no cards in the US have them anymore!! At least the new ones don’t!) I had to pay an extra $1000 deposit which they said they would return once I returned the vehicle. When I returned the vehicle they then said it would be 2 weeks before they returned my deposit to make sure I didn’t get any tickets on the vehicle. We are now over 2 weeks and they still have not returned my $1000 deposit! Also the car was all scratched and dinged up all around!! They AC vent on the driver side was broken!! Bottom line! Thrifty in Ecuador is terrible!! They should really do something about this location! Makes their company look bad! Will never rent from them again!2.0 Poor

Once on site, they obligated me to take the insurance which almost doubled the cost. I called customer service but they were no help at all and costed me even more due to the I ternational calls. Please don't sell insurances that later are not accepted by the car rental office. The only good thing about this experience was that they offered to switch the vehicle they gave me with the van I reserved; and they delivered it to where we were staying, but it was halfway through our trip and we had already done almost all of our driving in a VERY uncomfortable SUV .Cons:
> I was not given the van I was told on my receipt that I ordered. The small SUV they gave me BARELY fit all of us and our luggage - which we had to have under our feet and on our laps - very dangerous and EXTREMELY uncomfortable. > They offered to switch the vehicle with the van I ordered - which they had rented to someone else - halfway through our trip. We accepted, but we had already done 90% of our driving in the small SUV. Not really helpful. > I had to spend an additional $25/day (amounting to another $300) for insurance, although I had already purchased a plan through Alliance, which was suggested when I booked the vehicle online. There was nothing that stated this was not going to be valid in Ecuador, but that's what I was told and as a result I HAD to purchase the other insurance. HORRIBLE, EXPENSIVE EXPERIENCENational

1. Customer Service 2. Didn't honor the reservation booked & to get a car asked for more $ to rent directly even though reservation booked was active 3. Manager would not come out to speak to us 4. Pick-up was hell & drop off wasn't any easier 5. The car looked bad as it seemed to been in 2 accidents on the outside & the inside was dirty. Hadn't been cleaned. Had to take it to get it cleaned just to feel ok in it. 6. The car didn't come with full tank of gas 7. They changed the policies rules upon arrival even though we had a confirmed & active reservation, they said they cancelled it, they received no contact information & to rent a car it was way more money.
