  • The North Shore mountain range provides a picture perfect backdrop to the city of Vancouver -- visiting them during your travels is a must. Renting a car will give you the ability to access the mountain range and a long list of adventure activities. Having a car will give you the ability to go skiing or snowboarding on the world-renowned Cypress Mountain, or explore the spectacular views that hikes across Grouse Mountain and Mount Seymour have to offer.
  • Picking up a hire car at Vancouver International Airport (VIA) could not be simpler; hire company counters are located next to the baggage claim at both the Main and South terminals. VIA is conveniently located only 9 miles from downtown and you will arrive after approximately 30 minutes of driving.
  • Distances and speed limits are measured in kilometers throughout Canada, so be careful and adjust your driving to suit. Vancouver has numerous flashing green traffic lights, which mean you have the right to drive through the intersection but must approach cautiously and yield to pedestrians who may be crossing. Many cyclists are present on Vancouver roads, so it’s important to keep an active eye on your blind spots. Keep in mind that across the city there are some roads with separated bike lanes and roads where lanes are shared; be mindful in both situations to provide cyclists with a safe amount of room.
  • Like most major cities, rush hour in Vancouver can be frustrating and it is wise to avoid major arterial roads or driving altogether between 5 pm and 7 pm. Traffic can be especially bad on West Georgia Street in the evening and it is advisable to seek an alternative route. Also keep in mind that the bridges of Vancouver, such as the Alex Fraser, can clog up with congestion during peak times and, due to their narrow entries and exits, take a long time to open up again.

Driving in downtown Vancouver can be a bit challenging with traffic but we were always able to find parking somewhere. The public parking is fairly inexpensive (compared to Montreal) and there were many electric car charging stations in the city if you chose to rent an electric vehicle.

I rented a minivan. I called the agency to check the car insurance prices that I didn't hire on the application and they told me that the agency didn't have a minivan and couldn't have one. So if I hadn't called for some other reason, I would have arrived and they would have made a mess of all my travel plans. Bad service from Hertz for offering it and from Kayak and QEEQ for trusting what Hertz offers. I cancelled the rental and had to pay more at another agency. All bad!

bad, booked 48hrs in advance pickup at 790 southwest marine dr. was set for noon on saturday, ...they were closed and close at noon on saturday..?? called at 11:45 AM on my way there and no one answered so called customer service when I arrived at the closed location, was told that they had no more cars available there anyway...?? was told that i should go to the airport and and book again for 50$ more..?? LOL was told that's the way it works nothing can be done for me even though they obviously messed up... needed a car so went to the other location and there they are refusing payment and can't process my card for whatever reason... don't ever use this service or it's products, just go to TURO it seems as to not deal with any of that BS. Car was OK but windscreen was broken and the car had some issues like a failure with airbag-system. It wasn’t very clean. Value is ok but not really cheap. The staff was friendly and the pick up from the airport was very easy. We had to wait 45 minutes because the car wasn’t ready when we arrived.

The service was lovely but there were two issues: I had to wait 45 minutes for the car to be ready. Not a big deal to me but may be to other customers. More significant: I paid for a mid-size SUV, such as a Toyota RAV4 or Mitsuibishi Outlander. The car that I was given was a Mitsuibuishi RVR, which is one class smaller and is considered a compact SUV. If this location only has RVRs, then it should be sold as a compact SUV, not as a mid-size SUV.

When client pick up the car, your stuff should confirm the gasoline tank level. In my case the mileage showed it is 299 km to empty. And it covered 300km before refill the gas.

Toyota Corolla is a really nice car to drive, it has added safety when it comes with radar to check blind spots on sides mirrors and slip lines (crossing lanes) warning. I like this feature so much! The car was so dirty when picking up, The Hertz franchise "Dollar", their staff at SW Marine drive did not well prepared the car to the next customer.

The staff seemed to be doing their best in a difficult situation handling a lot of customers. We had a reservation to pick up a car. There were other patient people waiting. It seemed chaotic, like there should have been numbers given to us to give us a clue. We waited for our turn. I paid an upgrade to drive a Volkswagen Jetta. They said a Toyota Corolla was in the same class and that’s what they had. I see now that I paid a lot for the “convenience” of picking the car up in town in addition to Kayak’s fee. That was my mistake.

Didn’t get the car I was supposed to get. I was supposed to get a small compact like a Chevrolet Spark or similar and instead got an SUV. I tried to reserve a small car because it would be better on gas. It also costed more and I suppose I got the dealers choice instead. Good clean car and newer model but did not get what I reserved.

We arrived to pick up our vehicle, only to find out that the rental office was closed, despite the sign on the door stating that they should still have been open, according to their hours. We had to wait until the nest day to pick up our car, despite having been charged for the first day. Drop-off was extremely unprofessional, and left us worried that we might have been caught in a scam. A handwritten note taped to the rental office window had a number that we had to call. A man came without any clear indicators that he actually worked for the company and asked me to show where I'd parked, at which point I handed over the keys and he left with the rental car. We never received a receipt or any confirmation that the car had been properly returned. It's been two days and I still have yet to hear from the company. I wouldn't recommend this rental company to anyone.

I had confirmation that a car would be available but when I arrived they didn’t have a car available and sent me to another location 20 minutes drive away which caused us to miss our ferry reservation. This could have been avoided if they’d rung me in advance and not to be told when I turned up!

Terrible experience! This agency is running a scam. The address listed on Kayak was wrong, and they blamed Kayak for not updating it. They sent me to another location, where they claimed they had no cars available, even though they were still advertising them online. They refused to offer a free upgrade, which they should have provided. I wasted 3 hours, and my daughter missed an important event. To make matters worse, they're listed under three different company names with fake addresses. Avoid this agency at all costs!

The car I was given was extremely loud, making me feel very unsafe driving it. Probably a first generation hybrid, hence the noise, but I question if fit to drive at all. I also asked for a receipt upon returning the car. It was denied saying the company does not allow that. It makes no sense. How can one prove they returned the car if they can't have a receipt ? First time I hear this. The two different clerks were pleasant otherwise.

My flight back to hometown was at 7am, but Europcar opens at 8am. They did not have a shuttle service to get us back to the airport. We had to get two taxis since it was 5 of us with 5 luggage. This was around 120$ extra.

The customer service is not great. I asked to add the insurance a couple of time and they never got it done. I called to change the car since we didn't order a basic mini suv, but I needed to go to Richmond to make the change. The car was very dirty and damaged and the tires were not great. The value was good but I'm now dealing with the customer service again for the return. They asked me to pay for the damages when a claim was sent to my insurance company since they couldn't do it properly with their insurance the first time around.

I booked to pick up the car in Vancouver downtown at 9 a.m. But when I arrived, the staff told me the car was not available in Vancouver downtown but in Richmond. I ended up picking up the car in Richmond at almost 11 a.m. Poor management.

Didn't have any cars when I arrived on time. Took about an hour and a half to wait for someone to return a car and have it briefly cleaned. The inside was not cleaned at all and was quite filthy. Car had engine light warning on and issues with the wireless key start.

Pros:

I prepaid online and reserved my car to pick up at 8. Arrived at 8 to find no one there, had to call and ask for someone to help me out. I reserved the car at a specific time for a reason, and I wasn’t getting out of there with the car until after 9. A bit ridiculous in my eyes, Such a lack of care to their costumers. Oh wait there’s more. I bought insurance prior on kayak, but not straight from rent-a-car. Resulting in them withholding a massive fee on my credit card and saying I owe them nearly a grand to replace a windshield because of a tiny chip in the windshield due to driving on the highway. I’ve rented cars before and have never dealt with this kind of thing. No windshield replacement should be that much, and the chip is so minor it could easily be filled for very cheap. But instead rent a car is money grabbing and taking advantage of me. In the process of trying to figure out my claim with the third party insurance, which of course has not been easy. All in all I’m extremely upset by my experience and would recommend you go else where to rent a car.
